I was approved for a secured HSBC credit card, should I have tried for an unsecured HSBC card first?
Which would be better for improving my credit score?

- Your credit file shows the amount of credit you have, your repayment amount and the history of repayments. It wouldn't really matter for your file if it's secured or not. Of course secured debt usually has a lower interest rate, but you'll have less equity.
- Don't even get an HSBC credit card or any credit card if you really don't have to.
